About the MicroCourse

FLO MicroCourse

The B.C. Digital Literacy Framework is part of the B.C. Digital Learning Strategy developed by the Digital Learning Advisory Committee, a collaboration between the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills and the post-secondary system. The framework includes eight thematic competencies within digital literacy: ethical and legal, technology, information literacy, digital scholarship, communication and collaboration, creation and curation, digital well-being, and community-based learning.

This one-week Facilitating Learning Online (FLO) MicroCourse is designed for post-secondary instructors, trainers, and teachers who want to explore the B.C. These sessions will be recorded if you cannot attend. You are encouraged to block off five to eight hours for learning during this one-week course.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Review the B.C. Digital Literacy Framework and its eight thematic competencies.
  • Improve your awareness about digital competency levels using a self-assessment quiz.
  • Identify open educational resources aligned with the framework to enhance course content and materials.
  • Explore ways to incorporate digital literacy into teaching practices for a holistic educational experience.

ETUG Spring 2024 Workshop – Digital Literacy Today: Celebrating 30 Years of Educational Transformation
May 9 – May 10 all-day

Save the date!

ETUG logo

Learner preferences and characteristics in B.C. higher education have undergone significant changes in recent years. Notably, emerging trends include a greater expectation for varied learning modalities (online, hybrid, and in-person), as well as a wider spectrum of digital literacy skills. At the same time, post-secondary institutions have had to adapt to various disruptive technological changes, while being resilient in the face of an uncertain educational landscape.

In this spring workshop, commemorating ETUG’s 30th anniversary, we will explore the interaction between our educational ecosystem and the various technologies driving change. The focus will be on practical issues, solutions, and real technology-related challenges facing post-secondary education. We will discuss topics such as the best practices for supporting digital literacy given the current state of technology, how institutions are considering the human behind the machine, and how colleges and universities are supporting a greater demand for online and hybrid options.

The event will be held May 9-10 in-person at Simon Fraser University’s Segal Building in Vancouver, B.C., with a livestream option available. A mixer will be held on the evening of May 8 at Butcher & Block.

Call for Proposals

ETUG is accepting proposals for event presenters. Proposals should address one or more of the following questions:

  • What trends in student demographics and expectations are you observing, and how do these trends inform or relate to changes in educational technology?
  • What expectations exist regarding technology use in the workplace, and how do these expectations inform program content and delivery?
  • How are institutions supporting the delivery of online, hybrid, and in-person classes?
  • How do you accommodate different learning styles and abilities when integrating digital literacy into your lessons?
  • Are there specific strategies you use to ensure inclusivity in digital literacy education?
  • How do you share successful practices and lessons learned with your colleagues?
  • What challenges do you face incorporating digital literacy into your teaching?
  • How do you overcome these challenges, and are there any innovative solutions you have implemented?

Please submit your proposal here. Submissions are due at end of day on March 29, 2024.
