Lift Style – Being vs Doing
Is communication that seems clear and concise to you misinterpreted by others? Do you get the sense that something’s up? Could it be an intercultural communication clash?
Culture has a strong influence on how we communicate. How does the increase in cultural diversity on campus affect your communication with students? This series of discussion-style workshops will look at several cultural dimensions that influence how we communicate with each other.
As a jumping off point for discussion, we will be watching 30 min videos from a lecture series called “Customs of the World: Using Cultural Intelligence to Adopt, Wherever you are.” This series comes highly recommend by leaders in the field of culture and education in B.C. The lectures cover many aspects of culture which I’m sure will be of interest to many of you. Follow the link to find out more about the lecture series.
Following the video we will discuss how each of the cultural dimension effects how we communicate in the Langara context.
